What is InMode BodyFX?2026.03.07
A Body Treatment that Targets Fat Cells
Body contouring treatments can be broadly divided into surgical and non-surgical approaches. Among non-surgical technologies, InMode BodyFX is notable because it directly targets fat cells.
BodyFX combines radiofrequency (RF) heating and high-voltage electrical pulses to affect adipose tissue. Unlike conventional slimming devices that temporarily shrink fat cells, BodyFX aims to induce biological changes within fat cells.

Radiofrequency Heating of Fat Tissue
During treatment, radiofrequency energy heats the subcutaneous tissue to approximately 40–43°C.
At this temperature range:
- Blood circulation increases
- Fat metabolism becomes more active
- Connective tissue softens
Heating the fat layer also destabilizes adipocytes metabolically. In addition, BodyFX uses vacuum suction to lift the tissue, allowing energy to be delivered more efficiently to the fat layer.

Electrical Pulses and Fat Cell Damage
A key feature of BodyFX is the use of high-voltage electrical pulses in addition to RF energy.
These electrical pulses alter the permeability of the fat cell membrane, damaging adipocytes and triggering apoptosis (programmed cell death).
The damaged fat cells are then gradually removed through the body’s lymphatic system and immune response.
Therefore, BodyFX should be understood not as a treatment that temporarily shrinks fat cells, but rather as a treatment that reduces the number of fat cells.

Difference from BodyForma
Although both devices belong to the InMode platform, BodyFX and BodyForma serve different purposes.
BodyForma primarily uses radiofrequency heating to stimulate the dermis. The heat causes collagen contraction and promotes collagen remodeling, leading to skin tightening.
For this reason, BodyForma is more suitable for:
- Skin laxity
- Mild skin redundancy
- Overall tightening of body contours

Difference from Morpheus8
Morpheus8 works through a completely different mechanism.
It is a fractional RF microneedling device that delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis and subdermal layers through micro-needles.
This treatment promotes:
- Collagen remodeling
- Fibrous tissue contraction
- Skin tightening
Therefore, Morpheus8 primarily improves skin quality and tissue remodeling, rather than reducing fat.

Medical Comparison with Liposuction
From a medical perspective, liposuction remains the most effective method for fat reduction because it physically removes fat cells using a cannula.
BodyFX, on the other hand, is a non-surgical treatment. While the degree of fat reduction is smaller than with liposuction, it allows direct biological targeting of fat cells without surgery.
Clinically, liposuction is more appropriate when there is a larger volume of fat, whereas BodyFX may be useful for mild fat deposits or contour refinement.
BodyFX may also be used after liposuction to help adjust minor residual fat or refine body contours.

Key Concept in Body Contouring
Successful body contouring is not only about reducing fat. It requires consideration of three anatomical components:
- Fat volume
- Skin quality
- Underlying muscle contour
Combining different treatments that target these structures can lead to more natural and balanced body contours.
