When undergoing liposuction, many patients worry most about anesthesia.

At AVAN TOKYO, we believe anesthesia management is just as important as surgical skill.

Our goal is always the same — to perform every procedure safely, comfortably, and with precision, tailored to each individual patient.

Three Types of Anesthesia Used for Liposuction

① Intravenous Sedation (Propofol + Inhalation Anesthetic)

This is the most commonly used anesthesia method for our liposuction procedures.

In the past, we managed sedation with propofol alone at around 40 ml/h, but since opening AVAN TOKYO, we have refined our approach.

Now, we combine a low-dose propofol infusion (10 ml/h) with a gentle inhalation anesthetic delivered through the anesthesia machine.

This method allows for:

• Reduced strain on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
• Smoother recovery, with less nausea and fatigue
• Stable and precise anesthesia depth throughout the procedure

② Local Anesthesia + Analgesic Sedation

For smaller areas such as arms or chin, local anesthesia combined with mild sedation can be sufficient.

This approach minimizes systemic effects while effectively controlling pain.

③ General Anesthesia (with Certified Anesthesiologist)

For large-volume or multiple-area liposuction, we perform the surgery under general anesthesia with our partner anesthesiologist.

To ensure maximum safety, I personally perform endotracheal intubation to secure the airway, allowing for immediate intervention in case of any emergency.

Safety Measures and Monitoring

• Comprehensive preoperative blood tests (liver, kidney, coagulation, etc.) are mandatory.
• Anesthesia dosage is customized based on body weight, fat volume, and surgical area.
• Continuous monitoring of oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and heart rate throughout surgery.
• Emergency medications, oxygen supply, and suction systems are always on standby in the operating room.
