Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck, officially called abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure to flatten and tighten the abdomen by removing sagging skin and subcutaneous tissue from the abdomen and, if necessary, suturing the rectus abdominis muscle.
Methods to tighten flabby abdominal skin include self-care such as massage and skin care, and laser treatment, but if the flab is large due to pregnancy or significant weight fluctuation, it may be difficult to improve. In such cases, a tummy tuck is an effective way to remove excess skin.
In a tummy tuck, an incision is made in the lower abdomen, excess skin and subcutaneous tissue are removed, and then the skin is tightened. In addition, if necessary, the rectus abdominis muscles that have separated due to childbirth or obesity are stitched together and restored to their correct position.
This will not only improve the appearance of a flat stomach, but also provide functional benefits such as core strengthening and improved posture.
Tummy tuck is a procedure that is still unfamiliar in Japan, but it is very popular overseas as part of Mommy Makeover (a procedure to restore or further beautify the body to its pre-natal state). It is also used to remove excess skin after liposuction in a wide range of ages from 30s to 60s.
Our aesthetic specialists, who are well versed in anatomy, offer Tummy Tuck with a focus on high safety and natural, beautiful results. If you want to improve the skin on your abdomen stretched by weight loss or pregnancy and childbirth, or if you want to achieve a clean waistline, please contact our clinic.
Tummy Tuck is recommended for
- Those who have a sagging belly due to significant weight loss
- Those who want to tighten sagging skin after liposuction
- Those who want to restore a sagging belly after childbirth
- Those who want to clean up their waistline

Applicable areas for Tummy Tuck
The main areas for Tummy Tuck are the “lower abdomen” below the navel, the “upper abdomen” above the navel, and the rectus abdominis muscle. In some cases, the waist and lateral abdomen are also included.
Lower abdomen
The area below the navel is particularly prone to noticeable sagging due to pregnancy and weight gain or loss. Excess skin and subcutaneous tissue in this area is removed, and the navel is repositioned and sutured. If the sagging is mild, the area to be removed can be reduced.
Upper abdomen + lower abdomen
When sagging is prominent throughout the abdomen, the upper abdomen is an applicable site in addition to the lower abdomen. Excess skin and subcutaneous tissue from above the navel to the pubic mound is removed, and the navel is reshaped to a new position.
Rectus Abdominis
The rectus abdominis is a muscle located in the front of the abdomen. Normally, it is closed around the navel, but due to childbirth or obesity, the rectus abdominis muscle may open to the left or right. This condition is called “rectus abdominis separation,” and it can cause a flabby or sagging abdomen or impair posture and trunk stability due to decreased abdominal pressure.
The Tummy Tuck sutures the separated rectus abdominis muscles into the correct position to improve abdominal contour and function.
Features of our Tummy Tuck
Highly safe procedure based on anatomy
Our Tummy Tuck is performed by a physician who is well versed in anatomy. The physician in charge has an accurate understanding of the location and role of the skin, fat, muscles, blood vessels, and nerves in the abdomen, and can perform the procedure with a high degree of safety, taking care not to damage these important structures.
In addition, the risk of complications from the procedure, such as the risk of infection or blood clots, is minimized, allowing the patient to undergo the procedure with peace of mind.
Natural and beautiful results
Our Tummy Tuck is designed with skin and muscle tension and fat distribution in mind. By precisely removing excess skin and fat and suturing the rectus abdominis muscle in the correct position, we can create a natural and toned abdomen. The position and shape of the navel are also carefully considered to create a natural and beautiful appearance.
Early recovery is possible through precise post-operative care
Our Tummy Tuck procedure allows for early recovery through precise post-operative care. Careful treatment based on anatomy promotes the natural recovery of tissues while minimizing the burden on the body. After surgery, we provide care methods to reduce swelling and pain, as well as appropriate aftercare plans tailored to each individual patient.
Our extensive follow-up system reduces the burden on patients, allowing them to undergo the procedure with peace of mind.
Advantages of Tummy Tuck

- Flabby stomach improves and tightens
- Waist looks thinner
- Improved core function, lower back pain and poor posture

Tummy Tuck Side Effects
The following side effects may occur with the Tummy Tuck procedure. These are common risks associated with surgery, but can be prevented or reduced with proper care.
- Pain
-
You will feel pain in the treated area for a few days after surgery, but it will lessen within a week or two. Pain can be reduced by taking prescribed painkillers.
- Swelling and internal bleeding
-
Swelling and internal bleeding may occur in the abdomen for a few days after surgery, but will recover in 3 to 4 weeks. Avoid strenuous exercise and prolonged bathing, as symptoms may become worse as the body warms up. Swelling can also be relieved by proper application of a supporter.
- Infection
-
Bacteria can enter the wound and cause infection. Postoperative wound care is important to prevent the risk of infection. If strong swelling, pain, heat, or suppuration is observed, suspect infection and seek medical attention immediately.
- Sensory changes
-
may temporarily dull sensation in the abdomen, but this is a normal reaction to the process of skin regeneration and will recover in a few months.
Tummy Tuck Downtime
After Tummy Tuck surgery, you can return to your daily activities in one to two weeks, but it will take one to two months to fully recover.
Postoperative 1 to 2 days
After the surgery, you will feel pain as the anesthesia wears off, so please take the prescribed painkillers and stay at rest.

1 week after the surgery
You will be able to do light daily activities. Avoid activities that put stress on the abdomen, such as carrying heavy loads or twisting your body. Wear a supporter to protect the abdomen.

2 to 3 weeks after surgery
You can return to light exercise and work. However, refrain from strenuous exercise and movements that put a burden on the abdomen.

1 month to 3 months after surgery
Swelling and internal bleeding will completely disappear, and the scar will settle. Strenuous exercise and movements that place a burden on the abdomen are possible. It will take about one year for the scar to become completely invisible.
Flow of Tummy Tuck at our clinic
STEP1Counseling/Consultation
In addition to a detailed hearing about your abdominal concerns and wishes, we will examine the sagging skin, fat distribution, and condition of the rectus abdominis muscle to develop an optimal treatment plan. We will also carefully explain the effects and risks of the procedure. If you have any concerns or questions about the procedure, please do not hesitate to tell us.

STEP2Design
dimensions are recorded, the planned incision lines are marked, and a specific treatment design is proposed.
STEP3General Anesthesia
General anesthesia will be administered to ensure that the patient will not feel pain during the procedure. To ensure safety, the patient’s condition will be closely monitored.
STEP4Treatment
An incision is made in the lower abdomen according to the markings, excess skin and subcutaneous tissue are removed, and the rectus abdominis muscle is repaired. The navel is then carefully sutured and reshaped. The procedure takes about 6 to 8 hours.
STEP5Postoperative Treatment
The condition of the treated area is checked. If there are no problems, a supporter will be put on to protect and fix the operated area, and detailed instructions will be given on what to expect in daily life and how to take care of the area at home.
STEP6Suture removal
Please come to the clinic 1 week to 10 days after the surgery to check the suture site and remove the sutures.
STEP7Aftercare
We will ask you to visit our clinic between 1 month and 3 months after the surgery to check the progress after the surgery. Specifically, we will check the condition of the scar, improvement of swelling, tightness of the skin, and whether there is any pain or discomfort. If there are no problems, you can return to your normal life.
