Participation in Anatomy Training in Hawaii2026.07.10

Reviewing Anatomy for Rib Remodeling Surgery, Tummy Tuck, and Emergency Response
At AVAN TOKYO, we place great importance on continuous medical training and anatomical education in order to provide safer and higher-quality cosmetic surgery.
On July 7 and 8, we participated in an anatomy training program in Hawaii. During this two-day training, we reviewed a wide range of anatomical structures and surgical procedures, including tracheostomy, chest tube drainage, rib remodeling surgery, tummy tuck, and body contouring procedures.
The main areas reviewed during this training included:
● Tracheostomy
● Chest tube drainage
● Rib remodeling surgery
● Tummy tuck
● Anatomy related to body contouring surgery
● Management of possible intraoperative and postoperative complications
Cosmetic surgery is not only about improving appearance.
A deep understanding of anatomy, the ability to respond to complications, appropriate anesthesia management, and postoperative recovery care are all essential for achieving both safety and high-quality surgical results.

Reviewing Rib Remodeling Surgery Technique and Anatomy
During this anatomy training, we also reviewed the technical aspects of rib remodeling surgery.
Rib remodeling surgery is a procedure that aims to improve the waistline and upper-body silhouette by adjusting the shape and angle of the ribs.
The ribs can potentially be approached from both the front and back sides, and the indication must be carefully determined based on what kind of waistline the patient wants to achieve.
However, rib remodeling surgery is an extremely delicate procedure.
If the bending angle of the rib is made too strong, it may increase the risk of serious complications such as complete rib fracture, pneumothorax, or organ injury.
For this reason, at AVAN TOKYO, we place great importance on anatomical understanding, appropriate patient selection, careful intraoperative technique, and postoperative management.

Strengthening Our Preparedness for Possible Complications
During this two-day training, we performed chest tube drainage nine times and reconfirmed the management of thoracic complications.
In rib remodeling surgery and other chest or body contouring procedures, complications such as pneumothorax are rare, but they can occur.
What is important is not only designing surgery to reduce the risk of complications, but also being prepared to respond quickly and appropriately if a complication occurs.
At AVAN TOKYO, we focus not only on the quality of the procedure itself, but also on intraoperative judgment, initial response, and postoperative recovery management.

Rib Remodeling Surgery at AVAN TOKYO
At our clinic, rib remodeling surgery is performed under general anesthesia managed by an anesthesiologist.
The procedure is performed by Dr. Avelino, who is affiliated with the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Kyorin University.
Rib remodeling surgery is a highly invasive and delicate procedure. It requires appropriate anesthesia management, anatomical knowledge, plastic surgery techniques, and postoperative care.
In addition, our clinic director also believes it is essential to understand and be able to respond to all procedures and techniques, including recovery management.
Regardless of who performs the surgery, we believe that the entire clinic must take responsibility for preoperative evaluation, surgical planning, postoperative management, and complication response.

Lifelong Learning Is Essential in Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic surgery is not simply a field of performing trending procedures.
Body procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and rib remodeling surgery require detailed anatomical understanding, which directly affects both results and safety.
Especially in highly invasive procedures, it is essential to understand the relationship between nerves, blood vessels, muscles, bones, and internal organs.
At AVAN TOKYO, we continue to update our knowledge and skills through domestic and international training programs, including anatomy training.
We will continue learning in order to build a clinic that contributes not only to cosmetic medicine, but also to the future of healthcare in Japan.

Summary
On July 7 and 8, the director of AVAN TOKYO participated in anatomy training in Hawaii and reviewed procedures such as tracheostomy, chest tube drainage, rib remodeling surgery, and tummy tuck.
Through this training, we will further strengthen our safety standards, complication management, and postoperative recovery system for body contouring procedures, including rib remodeling surgery.
At AVAN TOKYO, we are building a system that combines general anesthesia management by anesthesiologists, collaboration with doctors in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery, and the director’s own anatomical knowledge and ability to respond to complications.
Patients considering highly invasive body contouring procedures such as rib remodeling surgery, tummy tuck, or body excisional lift are welcome to consult us.

Risks and Complications
Procedures such as rib remodeling surgery, tummy tuck, and body excisional lift may involve risks such as swelling, bruising, pain, infection, hematoma, seroma, scarring, asymmetry, sensory changes, numbness, skin necrosis, wound separation, nerve injury, pneumothorax, complete rib fracture, organ injury, and possible need for revision surgery.
This notice is intended for medical education purposes. Results and recovery vary between individuals. Surgical indications are determined based on consultation, examination, medical history, body type, and the patient’s desired outcome.
