Fat Grafting Breast Augmentation Does Not Produce the Same Results for Everyone2026.05.30
Why Fat Survival Rates Vary from Patient to Patient
Many patients believe that fat grafting breast augmentation is a simple procedure because it uses their own fat.
While fat grafting can create a very natural look and feel, it is also one of the most delicate and technically demanding procedures in aesthetic surgery.
At AVAN TOKYO, we believe it is important to discuss not only the benefits, but also the limitations and realities of the procedure.
Fat Survival Rates Differ Significantly Between Individuals
Injected fat does not survive at a 100% rate.

Only fat cells that successfully establish a new blood supply will survive long-term. Fat cells that fail to obtain adequate circulation will gradually be absorbed by the body.
This is why results vary considerably among patients.
Several factors strongly influence fat survival:
1. Skin Elasticity
Patients with good skin expansion capacity can generally accommodate larger fat volumes and achieve better retention.
2. Skeletal Structure
Chest width, rib cage shape, and upper body proportions significantly affect the final appearance.
3. Breast Tissue
Patients with naturally developed breast tissue often demonstrate better fat survival and more predictable outcomes.
Case Example: 20-Year-Old Female
This patient had:
- Excellent skin elasticity
- Well-developed breast tissue
- Sufficient capacity to accommodate additional volume
As a result, even after receiving more than 300cc of fat grafting, she maintained excellent volume and contour at 3 months postoperatively.

How Much Enlargement Is Realistic?
For many slim Asian women, approximately 200–300cc of fat can be injected per breast, resulting in an average increase of about 1 to 1.5 cup sizes.
Patients seeking a larger enhancement may benefit from Hybrid Breast Augmentation, which combines implants with fat grafting.
More Fat Is Not Always Better
Fat grafting is not simply about injecting the maximum amount possible.
Excessive injection may increase the risk of:
- Fat necrosis
- Oil cysts
- Calcification
- Infection
At AVAN TOKYO, we prioritize long-term survival and natural beauty rather than aggressive volume expansion.
Long-Term Follow-Up Matters
Breast augmentation does not end on the day of surgery.
Even after 6 months, ongoing evaluation may be helpful to assess volume retention, symmetry, and whether additional treatment is necessary.
The AVAN TOKYO Approach
Our goal is not simply to increase breast size.
We focus on creating beautiful, natural, and long-lasting breast contours through personalized surgical planning based on each patient’s anatomy, skin quality, and goals.
Because every patient is unique, every breast augmentation plan should be unique as well.
